Everything about tennis bracelets at Manich
A tennis bracelet is an unbroken line of matching brilliant-cut diamonds set in a flexible gold track – a classic worn every day for decades. Below we gather what you should know before choosing yours: the name, the material, the size and the questions our customers ask most often.
What is a tennis bracelet, and why is it called that?
A tennis bracelet is a bracelet with a continuous line of matching diamonds, set closely in a flexible track so that it follows the movement of the wrist. The name comes from an episode at the 1987 US Open, when tennis player Chris Evert stopped her match to look for her diamond bracelet, which had fallen off during a rally. The story was mentioned so many times during the TV broadcast that the style has since been known worldwide as a "tennis bracelet".
Natural or lab grown diamonds?
At Manich you can choose between two types of diamonds that are chemically, physically and optically identical – the difference lies in origin and price. Our lab grown diamonds are IGI certified, and for every piece we also issue a personal jewellery certificate with an insurance valuation, signed by jeweller Erik Manich, GIA Graduate Gemologist and certified diamond grader.
Lab grown diamonds
Created in controlled laboratories and 50–70% less expensive than natural diamonds of the same quality – so you can choose a higher carat weight for the same budget.

Which length should you choose?
The standard length is 18 cm, which fits most people. Measure the circumference of your wrist with a tape measure just above the wrist bone and add 1–2 cm, so the bracelet drapes softly without being tight. We also make the bracelet in exactly your length.

Questions about tennis bracelets
What is a tennis bracelet?
A tennis bracelet is a bracelet with an unbroken line of matching brilliant-cut diamonds, set in a flexible gold track so it follows the movement of the wrist. It is a classic piece that can be worn every day.
Why is it called a tennis bracelet?
The name dates from 1987, when tennis player Chris Evert stopped a match at the US Open to look for her diamond bracelet, which had fallen onto the court. The episode received so much attention that the style has been called a "tennis bracelet" ever since.
How do you close and fasten a tennis bracelet?
A tennis bracelet closes with a safety clasp that prevents it from opening by accident. Like most chain and link bracelets, fastening it usually takes two hands or a little help from someone else. The exact clasp type is stated in each product description – please contact us if you have any questions before you buy.
Which length should I choose?
The standard length is 18 cm and fits most people. Measure your wrist and add 1–2 cm for a softly draped fit. We can make the bracelet in exactly your length.
What is the difference between natural and lab grown diamonds?
They are chemically, physically and optically identical. Our lab grown diamonds are IGI certified, while natural diamonds have historically had a better resale value and a rarity premium. Lab grown diamonds typically cost 50–70% less.
How much does a tennis bracelet cost at Manich?
Prices depend on carat weight, type of gold and type of diamond. All prices come direct from our own workshop without middlemen, and we offer a price guarantee: if we are not cheaper, we match the price you found and give you an additional 5% discount.
Can I have my tennis bracelet custom designed?
Yes. We make all our jewellery in our own workshop and can adjust length, carat weight, diamond cut and type of gold to your wishes. Contact us for a no-obligation conversation about your design.
